Congress history
The International Scientific Congress “Sport, People and Health” brings together researchers and professionals from around the world for an open exchange of views on sport and health.
- Held in Saint Petersburg every two years since 2003
- With the support of the Ministry of Sport of Russia, the Russian Olympic Committee and the Government of Saint Petersburg
Areas of work
- Improving physical education, encouraging physical activity among younger generations and developing sport for all
- Developing and implementing joint projects addressing issues in physical education and sport
- Studying and consolidating leading Russian and international experience in sporting achievement and sports medicine
- Developing active forms of civic and educational engagement to encourage healthy lifestyles

Directions for the development of the sports movement within the world’s sporting systems. The current phase of renewal in the international sports movement
Dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg State University, celebrated in 2024. Held under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, with support from the Ministry of Sport of Russia, the Russian Olympic Committee and the Government of Saint Petersburg.
Creating an international forum for broad discussion of current challenges facing the international sports movement.

Objectives
- Examining the challenges facing contemporary sport in connection with the crisis and renewal of the international sports movement, and seeking ways out of the crisis
- Identifying key directions for renewing the sports movement within the world’s sporting systems
- Bringing together the efforts of the international scientific community, public organisations and government bodies to restore Olympic ideals and the moral values of sport
- Combining the efforts of international and national organisations to spread humanistic sporting values and innovative practices

- It was decided that the XIII International Scientific Congress would focus on overcoming “double standards”, protecting athletes’ health, and combating doping, cruelty and corruption.
