Sport as a forum for cooperation: the main theme of the 2027 Congress

The main scientific theme of the Congress is “Strengthening and developing the international sports movement. Bringing people together around the Olympic ideals and principles and the moral values of sport”.

This theme brings together issues addressed by researchers, educators, coaches, doctors and sports administrators, from promoting sporting values and professional training to athletes’ health and international relations.

Olympic values and the future of the sports movement

The provisional programme includes scientific sections on the role of international sports organisations and the preservation of Olympic ideals and the moral values of world sport.

A further theme concerns prospects for the international sports movement and new approaches to organising international competitions. The programme addresses philosophical, historical, cultural and ethical issues in the Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympic movements, as well as the worldwide Sport for All movement.

From scientific discussion to professional practice

The Congress theme also encompasses applied fields: developing emerging athletes, sports medicine and psychology, adaptive physical education, education and digital technologies.

This combination enables participants to consider the development of sport from different professional perspectives. For coaches, the focus is athlete preparation; for doctors, athletes’ health and support; for educators, teaching and personal development; and for researchers, sharing research findings.

Communications and sports diplomacy

The provisional programme also includes a section on the role of communications, the information environment and sports diplomacy, and a round table entitled “Contemporary sports diplomacy: a values-based approach”.

These formats explore professional dialogue and the role of sport in maintaining links between people, organisations and research communities.

How to participate

Participant registration is open until 20 April 2027. The Congress offers in-person and online participation. Scientific papers for the proceedings are accepted until 1 February 2027.
