In April 2021 X International Congress Sport, People and Health will take place in Saint Petersburg – one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The choice of St. Petersburg as venue of the Congress is not accidental, because St. Petersburg is not only one of the famous and magnificent cities in the world, it is also a city with rich sporting traditions, champion-training schools and significant scientific school. A lot of well-known athletes, coaches, leading scientific experts come from St. Petersburg, and many of them are famous around the world.
The main academic subject of the congress is Prospects for strengthening and developing the Olympic Movement. Challenges of modern sports.
At the Congress, for three days, experts from different fields will share their experience, latest statistics and achievements in sport and health.
The Congress has significant authority since 2003, as it regularly brings together leading scientists and experts in modern sports development, sports medicine, social and legal aspects of physical culture.
Experience of St. Petersburg recently gained in this field allows our city to become a progressive center for introduction of new technologies and approaches in an action-oriented improvement of public health by means of physical culture and sport.
The main goal of the Congress is implementation of academic research, sharing experience and best practices of physical activities and sports development, learning the corresponding international experience.
Physical activities and sports should help to shape modern lifestyle and prolong fruitful years of human life. This is sports and physical activity which are to become the basis for self-development, health, fitness and beauty.

On behalf of the staff of Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health and on my own behalf, I welcome you to the X International Congress “Sport, People and Health”.
The main scientific direction of this year’s Congress was the theme: “Prospects for strengthening and developing the Olympic movement. Problems of modern sports”.
In the current situation that has developed in the world due to the crisis in the international Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympic movement, as well as with the spread of coronavirus and a long break in the training and competition process, it is especially important to preserve the Olympic ideals and principles, the moral values of world sport.
The Congress is faced with urgent tasks to solve. They concern a wide range of issues from the historical legacy of the works and activities of Peter Frantsevich Lesgaft in the context of solving modern problems of physical culture and sport to the generalization of the main results of education in the field of physical culture and sport, and drafting prospects for further development. At the section meetings of the X International Congress, important topics of modern sports will be discussed.
I would like to note that this year the Congress “Sport, People and Health” is especially important for us. It is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the establishment of our University – Lesgaft National State University, Saint Petersburg.

This year’s Congress is dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the establishment of Lesgaft National State University, Saint Petersburg. The main scientific direction of the Congress work will be issues related to the problems of modern sports and the prospects for the development of the Olympic movement.
This research topic was not chosen by chance. It is relevant today and attracts the attention of all world experts in the field of sports.
The Congress has important tasks that should determine the key directions in the activities of the international scientific community to overcome the crisis in the international Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympic movement. We must preserve the Olympic ideals and principles and the moral values of world sport. In our time, the issue of combining the efforts of international and national organizations in the dissemination of innovative projects and best practices aimed at the harmonious development of the individual in the systems of physical culture, sports, health and education is more relevant than ever.
I sincerely hope that participation in the Congress ” Sport, People and Health” will be a good experience in your further research work.

International Public Organization for Promotion of Science and Sport Sport, People, Health works for more than 18 years. The headquarters are located in St. Petersburg. The main purpose of the Organization is to prepare and conduct the International Scientific Congresses Sport, People and Health in Saint Petersburg every two years. Saint Petersburg was chosen to be the home for the International Congress not only because of its beauty and culture, but also because of rich traditions in sports and champions upbringing, as well as highest class science. Many famous athletes, coaches, leading experts born in Saint-Petersburg are well-known all around the world.
The Congress has significant authority since 2003, regularly bringing together leading scientists and experts in modern sports development, sports medicine, social and legal aspects of physical culture. - to validate the theoretic and methodical, social and psychological, medical and ethical aspects of sport development
- to improve physical training and sports activities at preserving and promoting the health of people in various countries
- to research inter-dependence among the modern sports, health, and physical activities
- to facilitate growth of physical activities of various groups of population in their everyday life
- to study and distribute the best practices and innovative projects focused on the harmonious personal development in the systems of physical training and sports, healthcare, and education in various countries all over the world
- to consolidate the Olympic principles and to promote the Olympic Movement.

Physical culture is an important part of national cultures as it comprises material and cultural values created and used to develop physical and intellectual capacities of people.
Today in Russia, professional and mass sport, sport for all is becoming more and more popular, especially among young people. More people choose healthy lifestyle and seek harmony of body and mind. Preserving the health of the nation has become a matter of national importance, and an indisputable priority.
However, there is still plenty to do for effective functioning of the system of physical culture and sports development, for them to become a uniting foundation for the society.
This all means that we need to continue working with challenges of development of physical culture and sports, to cooperate internationally and find the way out of Human crisis which appeared as a result of science and technology progress, to promote uniting people around sports values, to increase the role of sports in the life of modern society.
International Public Organization for Promotion of Science and Sport Sport, People, Health regards all these goals as priorities. They are going to be focus areas at forthcoming International Congresses so that the parties concerned could develop and implement projects in physical upbringing and sports. Sport, People and Health also supports study and generalization of advanced Russian and international experience in sports achievements, social and educational impact on the formation of a healthy lifestyle, social activity, development of physical culture, health, and sport for all movement.
Situated in Saint Petersburg, Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health is the oldest higher physical education institution in Russia.
In 2022, the University will celebrate its 150th anniversary. Its foundation dates back to 1872, when Peter Franzevich Lesgaft, a distinguished scholar and public figure, established “the Domestic Courses” for female teachers of physical education in Saint Petersburg.
In 1896, the Higher Courses for Female Teachers of Physical Education were established through the patronage of Innokentiy Mikhailovich Sibiryakov. The University itself was founded the same year.
In 1919, the State Institute of Physical Education was established on the basis of the Higher Courses. In 1924, it was renamed in honor of P.F. Lesgaft.
In 1935, the Order of Lenin was awarded to Lesgaft State Institute of Physical Education.
In 1942, the Institute was awarded the Order of Wartime Red Banner “…for excellence in carrying out combat tasks, targeted against German occupants, and in preparation of the Red Army reserves”. It was the only non-military higher education institution in the USSR to have received that award.
In 2005, Lesgaft State Academy of Physical Education became Lesgaft State University of Physical Education.
The University looks to the future with confidence and never ceases its development, while preserving the sports-related practices and scientific values set by P.F. Lesgaft.
It is symbolic that the University was founded the same year the modern Olympic Games were reborn, since that is the place where many Olympic athletes start their path to victory.
In 1908, N.A. Panin-Kolomenkin, a figure skater, became the first Russian athlete to win a gold Olympic medal. He was the head of Higher School of Figure Skating at Lesgaft Institute.
Lesgaft University is one of the best higher physical education institutions in the world.
Today, the University is comprised of 5 institutes, 9 faculties, 39 departments and 3 higher schools for coaches, with more than 400 teachers and lecturers being on the staff. More than 5500 students are studying at the University at the moment. Many of our students and alumni are the Olympic Games winners. They have acquired 363 Olympic medals, of which 186 are gold.
There are three educational levels available at Lesgaft University: bachelor studies, master studies and postgraduate studies. The available programmes are: Physical Education, Sports, Adaptive Physical Education, Management, International Relations, Journalism, Service, Tourism, Pedagogics, Psychological and Pedagogical Studies, State and Municipal Management, Advertising and Public Relations.
In 60 kinds of sport
Lesgaft University is a member of the federal project “Sports is a natural way of life”. It is expected that within the boundaries of the project new specialists will be prepared, while the existing ones will undergo further training on the basis of the University from 2020 to 2022.
The students and alumni of Lesgaft University have won 186 gold Olympic medals, and more than 730 gold medals in participating in world and European championships.
28 alumni of the University are honoured coaches and 17 are Judges of the International Category.
6 Olympic champions are on the current staff: Alexander Alexandrovich Karelin, Yuri Fedorovich Kashkarov, Andrey Ivanovich Krylov, Lyubov Ivanovna Egorova, Oksana Borisovna Kazakova and Anatoly Nikolayevich Alyabyev. 2 Olympic winners are also on the current staff: Nikolay Alexandrovich Kuznetsov and Olga Viktorovna Nikolayeva.
More than 450 undergraduate and postgraduate students participate in various kinds of sport as members of Russian national teams.
47 student teams take part in various kinds of sport.
13 research schools are part of Lesgaft University, Saint Petersburg. Notable research accomplishments include: 32 registered patents and 2 scientific discovery diplomas. 4 scientific journals are published regularly.
— Each year the University organizes and conducts national and international scientific conferences.
— Scientific research work is conducted and can be divided into the following types: government-assigned research, government contracts, internal research. Patents are applied for and registered. 12 promising research directions are to be explored by 2021. 4 main research areas, 5 government-assigned research projects and 30 internal research projects.
— Ph.D. and Sc.D. theses are defended every year.
— The center of testing, selecting and accompanying sports-gifted children helps to evaluate their affinity to particular kinds of sport. Biomedical (including genetic analysis), psychological and pedagogical tests can be conducted in order to assess children’s, as well as adult athletes’ of varying degrees of skill, abilities.
Lesgaft University is one of the co-founders of “Translational Medicine”, a research cluster. It is also one of the organizers of the international scientific congress “Sport, People and Health”.
The Genome Center was established on the basis of the Institute of health and rehabilitology of Lesgaft University. Its research activities are focused, among other tasks, on achieving the goals, set by the Presidential Act (07.05.2020) “On national aims and strategic goals, essential for the development of the Russian Federation until 2024”. The regional “Active Longevity Strategy” was developed by the Center. As a member of the “Translational Medicine” cluster, it takes part in the “Global Center of Genome Research” competition.
Six centers and a sports club are part of Lesgaft University, including:
— Lesgaft University Sports Club “SCYTH” («СКИФ им. П.Ф. Лесгафта»).
— The testing center for realization of the national program “Ready for Work and Defense”.
— The research and methodological center for realization of the national program “Ready for Work and Defense” for people with disabilities.
— The center of testing, selecting and accompanying sports-gifted children.
— The scientific-practical medical center.
— The scientific-practical center of adaptive physical education.
— The methodological center for rehabilitation and inclusion of adults and children with disabilities in the area of physical education and sports.

Fedor Emelianenko is the legend of combat SAMBO, the ambassador of the International SAMBO Federation and the idol of millions of people around the world.By his example (27 consecutive victories in mixed martial arts) he inspired martial arts enthusiasts from all over the world to SAMBO classes.
Habib Nurmagomedov is an outstanding athlete who managed to bring SAMBO popularity around the world to a new level. A win-win series of 28 victories, brilliant technique in the stance and stalls, fortitude and the will to win performed by Khabib Nurmagomedov are the best proof that combat SAMBO athletes have no weak points.
FIAS IN INTERNATIONAL SPORTS MOVEMENT
FIAS is constantly working to integrate SAMBO into the world sports movement, being a full member of the international sports organizations: GAISF, TAFISA, WADA, FISU, Peace and Sport, ARISF.
FIAS regular partners are the international sports channel Eurosport, the Olympic channel and Match TV. FIAS actively collaborates with the reputable sports publication Inside the games, with the International Association of Sports Press (AIPS), TASS, Interfax, Russia Today, EFE, Askanews and others.
November 30, 2018 FIAS received a provisional recognition of the International Olympic Committee, which was a major step for the development of SAMBO.
